Two birds with one stone...

Two things on my mind today.

Yesterday I mentioned my high sensitivity. This is something I just self-diagnosed a few years ago. I had lived my whole life thinking there was just something wrong with me. My mother used to put it like this, "If you look at her the wrong way, she will cry." And that was the truth.

A few years ago a friend clued me in to Elain Aron's The Highly Sensitive Person by buying me a copy of her book. It was eye-opening. I read most of the book in a single day. On the website there is a self-test. Here's what it says:

If you answered more than fourteen of the questions as true of yourself, you are probably highly sensitive.

I still routinely answer 23 of the questions as true of me.

After reading the book, I went on to get the Highly Sensitive Person's Workbook, and have worked through it in an effort to understand why I react the way I do. It has been a great help. One of the things that has really put a crimp in my (life)style is the fact that other people's moods affect me. Now that I realize that I make a big effort to step back when people are upset lest I become upset myself.

I have always been chided to come out of my shell, but this high sensitivity inhibits that. I'm always fearful of making a mistake, or saying the wrong thing, or god forbid stepping on someone's toes. I will still push myself to be more social, but it's a process...that's for sure.

Moving on to the second thing...my "bad boys." *swoony sigh*

I'm speaking primarily of Christopher and Sean. Many times when I read reviews of my books people say they loved Dafydd and Jeff right off the bat but either have a hard time warming up to Christopher and Sean, or they just don't like them at all.

I love both of them, for different reasons. But the one thing they both have in common is that they're just men, and they make mistakes. Their flaws make them all the more lovable to me, and I'm sure that doesn't make any sense.

This isn't to say that I dislike Dafydd and Jeff, I love the two of them too. Especially Dafydd, such a bundle of contradictions.
