Daily writing meme, and more

Things have been nothing if not hectic and unsettling for the past few months. For the second year in a row there is turmoil and chaos at the school where I work. We received disappointing news today regarding the status of the new school we (my husband and I) were hoping to move to. Everything is all up in the air, causing unending stress and disappointment. On top of that I had a rejection. I think the work can be salvaged however.

Before I get back to the writing meme I should mention that the GLBT Bookshelf is running a Free Gay eBooks give-away this month. Stop by for titles from some truly awesome authors...Mel Keegan, Victor J Banis, Jayne DeMarco, Claire Thompson, Mary Calmes, Josh Lanyon, Lee Rowan, PA Brown, Eden Winters, Vincent Diamond, PD Singer...and me. ;)

So, back to the meme with the days I missed.

Day Four

Tell us about one of your first stories/characters!

The very first serious story I ever wrote was about a rock 'n roll band. I wrote it while I was in high school, in a series of blank journal books. I thought it was an awesome story, with drama and really interesting characters. After that I wrote another story about a rock band. After that I started writing fanfic. I'll save my fanfic "rant" for another day, but suffice to say that some of my A.U. fanfic has turned into...well, The King's Tale for example.

Day Five

By age, who is your youngest character? Oldest? How about “youngest” and “oldest” in terms of when you created them?

Difficult question. I guess if I go back to the list of "universal characters" I made a few days ago then Jeff is the youngest, and David is the oldest. I don't necessarily classify my characters by age for the most part. In The King's Tale Patrick and Marged are the youngest, and I do have plans to eventually tell Anwyll's story. Dafydd is older than Christopher, but Sir Richard is likely the oldest character.

In terms of creation...of the characters on that list "Jeff" is the one I started writing first, making him the "oldest" and Rodrigo is the newest. I'll take this one step further and say (again) that Christopher is my favorite.

Day Six

Where are you most comfortable writing? At what time of day? Computer or good ol' pen and paper?

I am most comfortable writing at my desktop computer, in my bedroom. I do my best writing in the morning. I used to always write with pen and paper, but these days I do it all on my computer. I have notebooks where I keep detailed notes, and make my outlines, but writing on the computer has been good for me. When I wrote on paper I never wanted to discard any of my words. Even now, I make "parking lots" for all my works, where I cut out things, and save them because I love all my words.
