Happy Anniversary!

The King's Tale

It is with a certain amount of pride that I celebrate the third anniversary of the release of my first book, The King's Tale. A story born in a late night conversation with a friend, something we chatted about to amuse ourselves, then written into a short story, and finally into a full length novel. I never had any inclination in my wildest imaginings that it could be published, and now six and a half years after the night the story was born, The King's Tale is in its second edition, and the sequel The King's Heart is also a reality.

Okay, that's enough of my "author's ego". Sometimes I feel like an island, or the proverbial "king of nothing". I get isolated in my own world of writing. I fret that I'm not an author with thousands of book ratings, I'm an author with hundreds (barely...on GR I have 209 ratings, hardly allowing me to boast that it's "hundreds"). Sometimes this bothers me (heck, who am I kidding, it bothers me more than sometimes) but then I remind myself why it is. These stories are set in medieval times, complete with semi-accurate medieval language, hard to pronounce names, and for heaven's sake a few scenes of m/f sex :O Unfortunately, the books have a lot going against them. But, that doesn't change the fact that I find them fascinating. A long time ago someone told me to write for myself. Perhaps I took that a little to close to heart because I wrote these books for me. The King's Heart really only has one review, and I'm waiting for the "fans" of The King's Tale to swoop in and rail at me, or more precisely to rail at the book, leave it poor ratings because they can, because oh my God Rowena, how could you torture the characters like this? *shrugs* In my mind I'm not torturing the characters, but that's where my mind diverges from everyone else's.

I am holding a giveaway for The King's Heart at GoodReads. You can register to be in a drawing for an autographed copy of The King's Heart, and as a bonus when I ship the book out I will also include an autographed copy of The King's Tale -- edition two. The contest starts today and ends on August 10.
